Moses Abwas is a Business Development and Credit Professional at KUSCCO Housing Cooperative, a leading mortgage financing institution within Kenya’s cooperative movement. With a background in Accounting (BCom, Strathmore University, top 5% of class) and over four years of experience in housing finance, Moses brings a rare blend of business insight, credit operations, and data fluency to his work.
He has been instrumental in driving 40% membership growth, launching affordable housing products, and leading marketing campaigns that increased loan uptake by over 25%. In 2024, he transitioned into the Credit Department, where he now focuses on loan appraisal, risk profiling, and portfolio performance tracking, sharpening his understanding of credit from the inside out.
What makes Moses unique is his mission-driven approach to financial inclusion. Raised in a community where access to finance and mobility was limited, he’s deeply passionate about building systems, especially in housing and transport that are equitable, inclusive, and data-informed. This passion came alive during his work on a Smart Commute App project, which tackled transport inequality in urban Kenya by designing safer commuting options for women and youth in low-income neighborhoods. The experience strengthened his belief that mobility is a right, not a privilege and that tech and community insight can bridge this gap.
Moses is currently upskilling in SQL, Python, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI, with a focus on Data Analytics as a specialization. He chose this path because he believes data is a powerful driver of social change. Whether it’s mapping unsafe commute zones, segmenting borrowers for tailored credit solutions, or evaluating policy impacts, Moses is driven to turn data into actionable insights that influence planning, innovation, and public service delivery.
His ideal role is Data Analyst – Urban Mobility & Inclusion, where he can merge analytics with lived experience to shape better outcomes for marginalized communities. Insights from field experts have reinforced his commitment to three core principles: start with the problem (not the tool), communicate data in clear narratives, and embed ethics and inclusion in every stage of analysis.
Outside work, Moses brings humor and humility to his journey, like the time he tried to impress someone by explaining how mortgages work, only to realize they were a senior loan officer. Lesson learned: always check your audience!
